Super results for the Asciak Tennis Academy students at the VLTC Junior Open 2023.
Kelian Lauwers, still 13, made it a double . Kelian won both the u 16 and U 14 boys singles. In today’s u 14 final, Lauwers prevailed over G. Pace 6-3 6-0. In yesterday’s u 16 final, Lauwers was too strong for another of our players Adam Zammit, winning 6-0 6-0.
Maryia Magro won the girls U 14 singles in a good match. Magro, still 12 yrs old beat Maja Trojanowski 6-4 6-4.
Maxine Soler won the Girl’s u 10 against another of our very promising players Kelly Nikashin Spiteri 4-1 4-1 .
Soler, the u 10 Malta Champion, was in top form and the level was very high for an U 10 match.
For Maxine and Kelly, they will now move on to the u 12 events with the hard balls.
Trojanowski did extremely well this week, making it to 2 finals. In yesterday’s U 12 event, Maja lost 3-6 2-6 to a very strong Pippa Cutugno.
Kurt Bonnici was runner- up
u 12. In yesterday’s u 12 final , Bonnici lost to G. Pace 5-7 2-6. Kurt had his chances, leading 5-3 in the first set.
Daniel Fleri Soler played his first ever u 10 Open Final. Still 9, Daniel played excellently and was very close, however he had to settle for 2nd place against L. Kuijt 3-5 4-0 and 6-10 in the championship tie break.
A big well done to all participants and to ours, from the Marsa Sports Club, who made it to the Semifinals and Quarterfinals, and to those players who participated for the very first time .
