Fun Tennis Tournament at Asciak Tennis Academy: A Weekend of Excitement

The Asciak Tennis Academy hosted an exhilarating Fun Tennis Tournament at the Marsa Sports Club on September 20th and 21st, 2024. This popular event brought together young tennis enthusiasts for two days of competition, camaraderie, and, of course, fun!

Green Dot Event Highlights

Green Dot 'A' Event


On Friday, the tournament kicked off with the Green Dot A group event. George Spiteri Willits had an outstanding day, triumphing in both the singles and doubles categories. His skill and determination on the court set a high standard for the competition.

In the girls' singles, Mia Busietta showcased her talent, winning the top spot with an impressive performance. Special congratulations to Ben Tanti and Guilia Schembri Grima for securing second place—both displayed remarkable sportsmanship and skill throughout the matches.



In an exciting doubles event, we witnessed a first with twins George and Nina Spiteri Willits clinching the first-place title. Their teamwork and synergy were a joy to watch! Runners-up Daniel Fleri Soler and Mara Farrugia also put in a commendable performance.

Green Dot 'B' Event


In the Green Dot B event, Marco Federici and Dana Calleja emerged as the winners, displaying impressive skills throughout their matches. Michele Borg and Kimberly Fenech Laudi followed closely behind, securing the runner-up position.



In the doubles category for the B event, Mattias Chetcuti and Seb Galea claimed victory, while Eli Spiteri and Marco Federici finished as runners-up. Mia Caruana Bonnici and Julia Joy Galea were the champions in the girls’ doubles, with Dana Calleja and Faye Scicluna Calleja taking second place. Well done to all participants for their outstanding performances!



Red Ball Tournament Highlights


Saturday morning dawned bright and warm, setting the perfect stage for the Red Ball tournament. A total of 38 players participated, showcasing their developing skills and passion for the game.


In the Boys A group, Benji Portanier emerged as the winner, demonstrating excellent technique and strategy. Greg Galea put forth a commendable effort, finishing in second place.

In the Girls A group, five-year-old Ally Zarb Cousin impressed everyone by placing second out of ten participants. She narrowly lost to China’s eight-year-old Chen Juan by just a couple of points, showcasing her remarkable potential at such a young age. Ally is recognized as our top five-year-old player, and her level of play is truly impressive.

Orange Ball Tournament Highlights


Following the Red Ball tournament, the Orange Ball event featured 30 enthusiastic players. The matches were filled with excitement as these young athletes displayed their growing skills on the court. The performances were thrilling, with many players demonstrating their competitive spirit and sportsmanship.


The winners of the three singles events were:


  • U10 Boys Singles: Alan Sevastyanov

  • U10 Boys Singles: Marcus Attard

  • U10 Girls Singles: Alessia Bartolo

Both Alan and Marcus showcased exceptional skill, while they also faced stiff competition from younger opponents like seven-year-old Cyril Carabott and six-year-old Mia Caruana Bonnici, who both placed second. Marcus Farrugia also performed admirably, finishing as the runner-up in the singles event.


In the doubles competition, the winners were:


  • Boys Doubles: Jack Sullivan and Alan Sevastyanov

  • Girls Doubles: Sophie Xuereb and Alessia Bartolo


The runners-up in the doubles events were Marcus Attard and Liam Falzon, as well as Clara Cauchi and Julia Preca.


The level of play in the Orange Ball tournament was impressive, and it was inspiring to see young players compete with such enthusiasm.


A Weekend of Celebration and Thanks


This year's Fun Tennis Tournament was a resounding success, with a total of 100 players participating across various events. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the dedicated coaches who played a crucial role in preparing our players. Your commitment and passion for developing young talent are invaluable.


We also appreciate the parents for their unwavering support and efforts in making this event possible, as well as the Marsa Sports Club for their continued partnership with the Asciak Tennis Academy.
